Munnar | Superior
Everything about Munnar’s Spice Tree resort has been designed to reflect and accentuate its mountain setting in the heart of the Western Ghats.
Located in the hills outside town, this mountain retreat is all about natural harmony, from its solar powered outdoor pool, to the stone and wood interiors with their large windows.
The guestrooms look simple but are very comfortable. Each has both a mountain view and its own jacuzzi, with built-in furniture made from reclaimed wood. Huge windows make the most of the excellent natural light, and the earth-toned soft furnishings, rattan chairs and soft built-in window seats are just the ticket after a day of hiking!
The MSG-free menu in the large family dining room caters to all diets, with local Keralan dishes taking centre stage alongside the international fare. There’s also an in-house coffee shop and bakery offering handmade breads and pizzas.
The solar heated infinity pool is unique in the region, and allows guests to swim in mountain spring water as if they were in a warm lake on one of the nearby verdant peaks.
There’s plenty of hiking to be done around the resort, as well as walks to local spice plantations and other outdoor activities. But you’d be forgiven for simply staying in to enjoy the spa, which offers massages and herbal spa treatments, or take advantage of the in-house yoga and meditation, with experienced instructors are on hand.
