One of Vietnam's great cultural highlights

Ha Giang, in Vietnam’s remote north-east, offers visitors a chance to explore one of SE Asia’s final frontiers. Traditional cultures are very strong in the region & tourism has made little impact so far. The town markets, where local tribes gather in traditional dress to sell wares & socialise, have remained unchanged for centuries. Now is an ideal time to visit, especially if you’re keen to learn more about Vietnam's ethnic diversity. Until recently foreign tourists were entirely barred from the culturally sensitive region, but you can now travel there with a permit.
