Banthai Village

Chiang Mai

Stylish, bags of character, great value and well located: the Banthai Village is a class act. A small cluster of traditional-style northern Thai houses make up this no-fuss charming hotel which is set in a well serviced yet sedate district of Chiang Mai. It’s just outside the ancient city walls and within easy walking distance of many of the city's attractions, including the night market. The rooms are generously sized and configurations are well considered, with several layouts that are particularly excellent for families. Uncluttered and furnished in a traditional Lanna style, very much in keeping with the neighborhood, you can easily understand why this is one of our top picks in the area.

The hotel’s two buildings are separated by an extremely narrow street - you’d have to be brave to attempt to drive down it! - which helps to ensure a peaceful stay. There are several quiet courtyards and the central courtyard swimming pool makes for a welcoming relief from the heat of the day. After meandering around the Old Town, head to the restaurant for a pleasantly social atmosphere and a low key evening sipping classic cocktails.

Location

This bijou hotel is tucked away down a quiet side street in the suburbs in Chiang Mai, still within easy walking distance of the Old Town and night bazaars.

Why we love it

Discover what to expect from staying at Banthai Village

Traditional simplicity

The design is simple and echoes local tradition, and the surroundings feel calm and tranquil; away from the city’s busy vibe but close enough to be in the mix. A seamless combination in our opinion, linking the hustle and bustle of the atmospheric night markets and cultural sights of the Old Town with complete relaxation. A dip in the refreshing pool instantly takes you a world away from it all.

What can you do there?

Enjoy an alfresco breakfast by the pool before heading out to visit the local cultural sites and indulge in a spot of shopping in the nearby markets. Return to the hotel for a dip in the pool to cool off and recharge. Dine in one of the many local restaurants, enjoy a refreshing poolside cocktail in the heart of the hotel, and plunge into the jacuzzi for a soak and some much needed R&R.
