Perhentian Islands: An Introduction
Located 20km off the north east coast of Malaysia, and just 64km from the border with Thailand are Pulau Perhentian Besar and Pulau Perhentian Kecil, commonly known as the Perhentian Islands. Some argue they are the most beautiful islands in Malaysia; the palm fringed white sandy beaches and turquoise waters ensure the quality of beach holiday usually depicted on a postcard.
The most common activities (other than sunbathing) are snorkelling and swimming in the shallow, clear water that provides an excellent opportunity to see rays, cuttlefish and parrotfish to name a few. For the more adventurous, diving on the Perhentian Islands is considered amongst the best in the world and features towards the top of most PADI holder’s to-do list.
Although the better accommodation is found on Pulau Perhentian Besar (the larger of the two) the Perhentian experience is all about lying back and re-discovering your travel roots ….if you are looking for deluxe resorts & spa’s you’re in the wrong place!
