Originally built in the 1880’s by Cheong Fatt Tze - a wealthy Chinese trader with an eye for eclectic detail and the desire to build a home to reflect his rising social stature - this distinct hotel doubles as a museum, and is one of the most fascinating properties in all Malaysia, not to mention an historic landmark synonymous with Penang.
Acclaimed for its "perfect" (and quite deliberate) architectural feng shui, the Mansion inimitably blends eastern and western styles, with louvred windows, Art Nouveau stained glass and exquisite floor tiles carefully balanced with harmonic Chinese architecture. The Mansion's restoration took place in the early nineties and has since won numerous awards.
This is, in essence, a "heritage home-stay". Original features saturate the building, and throughout your time here, although small modern comforts have been introduced to ensure your comfort, you will experience life in a world long lost to history. Each room has its own theme, individually designed by locally famous artists to reflect the Mansion's different eras. All rooms come with a personal valet and excellent breakfast.
Located in the centre of Georgetown, you are within easy reach of many of the town’s highlights, including its many fine eateries.
