Amanemu

Ise Shima National Park

Exhilarating and exciting is the best way to describe Amanemu, the Ise Shima addition to the swish Aman family. An ultra stylish, modern, dream-like riff on traditional ryokan style, paying heavy homage to all that is aesthetically beautiful in Japan. The most service-led property group in the world’s most meticulous destination. A heady mix.

The suites are little islands of seclusion, each featuring a private onsen and floor-to-ceiling windows with views over the gardens or the bay. The minimalist style gives a sense of calm, which is further enhanced by the homely touch of fresh fruit and flowers. In the exquisite restaurant, the food is detailed, delicious and well presented. The menu focuses on locally-sourced ingredients, including the mouth-watering Matsusaka wagyu beef and, being so near the water, plenty of seafood too, including the famed Ise lobster.

Location

Set in the forested hills of Ise Shima National Park, overlooking the islands of Ago Bay. This is also the home of the holiest Shinto shrine in Japan, and is easily accessible from both the Kansai region and Nagoya.

Why we love it

Discover what to expect from staying at Amanemu

Onsen

The two onsen pools - one very warm, and the other hot - are one of the main features of the property and an absolute delight. For the self-conscious, they offer the opportunity to enjoy Japanese bathing culture in swimwear, which is not usually allowed.

Ise Jingu

No visit to Ise is complete without a trip to the shrine, Ise Jingu. Definitely not just another holy site, this the king of Shinto Shrines. A powerful, stunningly beautiful, mysterious place that blends satisfyingly with the epic surrounding forest. The Imperial family makes a yearly pilgrimage here.

What can you do there?

There are a number of free hiking trails in the area that go deep into the forest and surrounding mountains. Spend an unforgettable day with the Ama freedivers (women follow the traditional practice of diving for pearls without breathing equipment) including a barbecue of the freshest seafood you’ll ever eat, while gaining insight into their fascinating diving livelihoods.
