Sabah’s most anticipated cultural showcase is back! Entering its 21st year, Sabah Fest is an event which presents the essence of Sabah’s multifarious people through a multitude of cultural dances and traditional music performances, local food and beverage stalls for all to enjoy and handicraft-making demonstrations by the respective ethnic groups. This is a great opportunity to see skilled craftspeople at work during the handicraft exhibition and a chance to purchase hard-to-find items, from hand-woven baskets to intricately carved Sea Bajau lepa (wooden boat replicas). The Sabah Fest – with the theme ‘Mystical Sabah’ - kicks off with the Cultural Extravaganza show on 2 May 2009, at 8:00 pm, at the Magellan Grand Ballroom, Sutera Harbour Resort in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The Premier Show takes place the following day, with Sabah’s Head of State and his consort as the guests of honour. The one-hour show will highlight a handful of Sabah’s ethnic groups through a presentation of traditional song and dance combined with a display of rituals and scenes from their daily lives. Sabah has more than 30 ethnic groups who speak more than 100 dialects, whose cultural heritage has withstood the test of time.
