5th November: The Festival of Lights
The Festival of Lights, or Diwali, will start on 5th November, which is an official holiday in Borneo and across Malaysia.
Deepavali, sometimes spelt Diwali, is a homecoming celebration after Lord Rama's victorious return from Sri Lanka, Followers spend in anticipation of the evening prayer rituals after which small clay lamps are filled with clarified butter oil and the entire house is lit up by these lamps. Celebrations then usuall continue in the company of family, friends and neighbors.
