Borneo
Borneo Music Festival - 3rd July 2010
Music aficionados can revel in the eclectic mix of world music and folk songs as 80 local musicians take centre stage at the breathtaking Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, the Tip of Borneo.
The main highlight includes a musical presentation by the renowned Jesselton Philharmonic Orchestra (JPO). The full orchestra will be headed by two very established local music instructors, Yap Ling and Chou Yang Ching. Ever since its inception, JPO has matured into an all-volunteer ensemble that consists of 60 instrumentalists including strings, winds, brass, percussion and keyboard players.
JPO will be performing the classical Nutcracker Suite by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky and Eine Kleine Nachtmusik by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, plus their rendition of local folksongs Jambatan Tamparuli and Sayang Kinabalu. With the dramatic setting in the outdoors, this much anticipated comeback since 2006 promises to be a mesmerising experience that is out of this world! Head over to Kudat on July 3 to enjoy this musical extravaganza that begins from 5:00pm onwards. Entrance is free-of-charge; however, audiences are encouraged to bring personal mats as seats are limited.
