Accommodation
Accommodation is an integral part of any trip abroad, a vital cog in the wheel of any great holiday. We understand that our guests what to spend their time staying at properties with character, properties that offer something a little unusual and out of the ordinary. We have invested time and expense in searching for a selection of top quality properties throughout Asia, with something to suit every budget.
With the majority of our holidays, you will notice that we offer a choice of: standard; first class; superior; deluxe and home-stay accommodation. Aside from the home-stays (see below) we leave the choice to you. We know it is important that our guests return to a type of hotel that they feel most comfortable with (both in budget and facilities) at the end of each exhilarating day.
All the properties we use are inspected by both the UK and our Asian operators. In most instances we offer a selection of properties in each grade/destination and your consultant will be happy to talk through each option with you.
The following is intended as a general guide:
Standard (2*)
Good basic amenities, well kept and full of character. Often hotels are small, centrally located with a personal feel to them. Bathrooms are en-suite (unless specified).
First Class (3*)
Comfortable en-suite rooms, good amenities and public areas. Most first class properties offer a restaurant on-site and many will have a swimming pool.
Superior (4*)
Good superior accommodation offering a selection of services. Many superior hotels feature a choice of restaurants and in addition, virtually all have a swimming pool and in some instances a health club.
Deluxe (5*)
Deluxe hotels offer the highest standards of service and facilities and are acknowledged as the leading properties in the area.
Home stays
As far as we are aware there are no * ratings awarded for home-stays as yet! Just as the title suggests, you will actually be the guest in someone’s home. We use home-stay options when trekking and visiting minority tribal villages, allowing our guests to really experience life in these more remote destinations. It follows that facilities will be basic and you will find specific details on each itinerary - more
Why don't we use the more recognisable star (*) rating?
Quite simply because there is huge disparity between each countries grading system. There is no international governing body and this leads vast differences in each * category from one country to the next. In the summaries below we have included a * grading equivalent that we feel is close to a western standard.
'Our stay in the Ackha village was wonderful. The housing was very basic but comfortable enough and the view when we got up the following morning was breathtaking. You could see for literally miles down the valley, with nothing but the singing from the village school to distract you.' - Dave Wellington, Melbourne.
