Your Honeymoon in Vietnam

Our most popular honeymoon destination, Vietnam has it all. This S-shaped country lends itself to being ‘travelled through’, so most start at one end and emerge at the other, tanned and content. With over 3,000km of coast running almost the entire length of the country, you can be sure of some excellent beach options (and with three separate weather systems running throughout the country, there’s always sunshine somewhere). There’s culture on tap in the city of Hanoi or the UNESCO-protected town of Hoi An, adventure in abundance, and, in the past five years, world-class hotels have started springing up throughout the country, as well as a number of boutique-style city centre properties.
Where to start
First you need to consider how much you want to travel and how many destinations you would like to visit. Perhaps you want a few days in Hanoi to let the whole ‘marriage thing’ sink in whilst enjoying easy days wandering through the Old Quarter before heading south to the beaches and cultural hot spot of Hoi An. There’s always the up-and-coming island of Phu Quoc in the far south or the more established resorts of Phan Thiet & Mui Ne or Nha Trang. For water lovers there’s Halong Bay, sailing on a deluxe junk amongst the outstanding limestone karsts or, for the more adventurous, there’s trekking or cycling in Sapa or Mai Chau.
Vietnam's perfect Honeymoon Hotels
The Sofitel Metropole, Hanoi. Meticulously furnished in a French Colonial style, the Sofitel Metropole has been a famous landmark in Hanoi since it first opened its doors in 1901. If you’re thinking of spoiling yourself, you won’t be disappointed – the rooms are beautifully appointed, right down to the silk kimonos thoughtfully provided for you.
The Nam Hai, Hoi An. If you want to get your honeymoon off to a stunning start, book a guest house or pool villa at The Nam Hai, a truly mouth watering property overlooking a 1km stretch of pristine beach. Facilities are out of this world, from the three infinity pools and luxury spa to the in-room bathtubs to cosy up in.
Life Heritage Resort & Spa, Hoi An. Overlooking the scenic Thu Bon River, Life Heritage’s central location means that you’re never more than short walk from all of the city’s major sites. Most guests book themselves into The Life Spa as soon as they arrive – it’s one of the best in Hoi An.
La Veranda, Phu Quoc. A totally unexpected property on the less travelled island of Phu Quoc, La Veranda is a serene little boutique hotel that’s got just the right laidback ambience for honeymooners. And Phu Quoc – known as the ‘Island of 99 mountains’ and ‘The Emerald Island – is heart shaped. Which sold us even more.
Vietnam's Finest Honeymoon Beaches
Phan Thiet & Mui Ne. Resorts like the very personal Cham Villas or the luxurious Sailing Club must have been built with honeymooners in mind. Bask in 10 miles of golden sand and the quaint fishing village of Mui Ne at one end, plus there’s a wide range of water sports, such as kite surfing, available.
Cau Dai. A superb beach in its own right, Cau Dai also benefits from its close proximity to the UNESCO-protected town of Hoi An. This makes for a great double act, and many visitors to Vietnam state Hoi An/Cau Dai as their favourite destination. There are several excellent beach hotels to consider, including the Victoria Resort and the unique Nam Hai, situated a few miles to the north.
Phu Quoc Island. Less visited than many of the mainland beaches, Phu Quoc is a small island just off the southern tip of the Mekong Delta. The best beaches are positioned on the west of the island to the south of the small capital of Doung Doing. There is a good choice hotels here, ranging from the luxurious La Veranda through to the superb Mango Bay Eco Resort.
Where Else?
Why not continue into Cambodia, travelling up the Mekong Delta and crossing the border by water (boat provided!). The journey can be made in either direction and allows you to include a visit to the magnificent Angkor Temples as part of your honeymoon.
