Your Honeymoon in Thailand

Thailand has been a top choice for honeymooners for decades. Why? Quite simply, it does it so well. Hotels are luxurious, locations are stunning, beaches are plentiful and, in most cases, the whole package is very good value.
The land of smiles is home to some of the world’s finest beaches, bustling cities, exotic temples and ancient wonders. And, for the more adventurous, there are literally hundreds of outdoor pursuits to choose from, ranging from elephant riding to trekking, rafting to kayaking.
Where to start
Think about the kind of honeymoon you’re after. Do you fancy two weeks on a beach, a full-on adventure, a whole holiday of pampering, some fast-pacing city living—or a mixture of it all. Bangkok is likely to feature either at the beginning or the end (or both), and few can resist at least a few days at one of the many world-class beaches. It’s also worth considering Chiang Mai in the north, with its calm streets and multitude of temples. The north is also the region best suited to light adventure. Flights are often a consideration as, at times, distances can be too great to drive—your honeymoon planner will be able to advise you on the best route and any suitable air passes you may require.
Thailand's Pefect Honeymoon Hotels
Dream Bangkok. Young, funky and fabulous, Dream brings a little cosmopolitan chic to the city. Minutes from the Skytrain, for easy access to all the sights, and with the kind of luxuriously minimal rooms you’d expect to find in NYC (its sister hotel is, unsurprisingly, located in the Big Apple), it’s the perfect hotel to start—or end—a honeymoon in style.
The Pimalai, Koh Lanta. Koh Lanta island is small enough to make you feel like you’ve really got away from it all (it’s only 32km long and 6km wide), and The Pimalai is the place to stay if you want solitude with plenty of five-star comforts thrown in. 100 acres of tropical rainforest surrounding it; 900m of pristine beach out front; two stunning infinity pools—we’d recommend booking in for a fortnight.
Aleenta Resort and Spa, Pranburi. Described as probably the best small luxury resort in Thailand, Aleenta exceeds most guests’ expectations. At Aleenta you can book a bungalow by the sea with its own private plunge pool. How romantic is that? But it’s the personalised service that really impresses, with a Bose Ipod docking system in each room, canapés delivered to your door each day at 6pm and a fusion menu featuring vegetables and herbs from the hotel’s own organic garden.
Zazen Boutique Resort & Spa, Koh Samui. Samui is no.1 on most travellers’ must-see islands, and Zazen Resort is the place to head if you’re looking for a more refined island experience. It’s got a gorgeous spa, magnificent swimming pool and, most importantly for honeymooners, a quieter location at the northern end of the island.
Thailand's Perfect Honeymoon Beaches
Hua Hin, Pranburi and Cha Am. Totalling three stunning bays, all with something unique to offer, from the chic resorts of Cha Am in the north to the more active beaches of Hua Hin in the centre and the less developed beaches of Pranburi to the south. One of the area’s main benefits is that it’s just three hours by car from Bangkok, which means that you won’t need to account (either money or time) for additional flights to the southern islands.
Koh Samui. An old favourite, but with very good reason. Whilst the beaches of Chaweng and the close-by Lamai may have lost their backpacker vibe and gained a ‘rowdy’ holiday crowd reputation, Bophut beach, and the fishermen village to the north of the island, still offer a more laidback, romantic Thai experience. Enjoy the stunning stretch of uninterrupted sand, excellent restaurant and café options, some chilled-out beach bars and a selection of hotels to suit all budgets.
Koh Lanta. The least developed of our top three beach destinations, Koh Lanta has been one of the up-and-coming Thai islands for the past five years. Forget the ‘it’s Koh Samui 20 years ago’ comments that get bounced around—Koh Lanta is an established island with its very own appeal. The backpacker scene is well established on several beaches, which means there’s a chilled, youthful nightlife to dip into when you fancy it. But the Pimalai and Narima resorts enjoy their own stretches of private beach, ensuring solitude and romance on tap.
Where Else?
Why not consider a few days in Cambodia, exploring the magnificent Angkor Temples or journeying down the Tonlé Sap. Alternatively, head further north to the multi-award winning, UNESCO-recognised city of Luang Prabang in Laos, to explore its magnificent temples and wats.solitude and romance on tap.
