    Cambodia Holiday Reviews

    cambodia holidays

Hi Nick - I wouldn't normally do this but I had planned to drop you a line and let you know that everything was great and even better than that frequently! We had just the most fantastic time.
Everything went incredibly smoothly, all our guides and drivers were really great, we felt genuinely welcomed and nothing was too much trouble for any of them. Some of their personal histories, which they chose to share with us were particularly interesting and moving, it really made me appreciate my personal circumstances.
We were talking on the plane(s) on the way home and without exception everything had more than met our expectations. I for one can't wait to go back again. As to the photos I'm sure you really don't want all 230 of them, but when I've had chance to download them I'll send a couple in for the web site.
Thanks for organising what for me, has been a very memorable two weeks.

    Ian Currie, Cambodia & Vietnam

Hello Lionel - Well, what an amazing experience it all was... a new surprise every day and we still feel as if we're assimilating it all. We'll certainly fill in the questionnaire, but would like to take a little time over it so will look at it this evening (if we both survive our first day back at work!). We'll also send you some photos to add to those you already have once we've sorted them out (I've just taken a quick look at your blogs and want to go back already!).
We can't praise Selective Asia highly enough; the whole thing was so well organised and ran so seamlessly, and the guides were all wonderful sources of information and so ready to talk openly about just about anything. The whole thing was such an enjoyable learning experience with the right mix of relaxation thrown in as well. My only complaint is that it's harder than ever to readjust to life back at home! We've alredy recommended you to several of our friends and I was taking a look at your Borneo programme earlier (one can dream of next year!). What we really need is Selective South America as well, you're not thinking of expanding are you?
We'll return the questionnaire later, we did fill one in for the Cambodia leg of the tour that we gave to the guide out there (who didn't tell us until our last day there that the day we arrived was the same day his second child was born; what a lovely man he was - appropriately named Mr Daling).

'I think we got a bit ‘templed’ out at Angkor Wat so in fact the high lights there was just seeing the way of life in Siem Reap and around Tonlé Sap lake. We marvelled at the lane discipline or lack of it with everyone drifting round corners on the wrong side of the road, whole families on mopeds, also transporting live pigs strapped on the back of mopeds, very overloaded vans, no health and safety! The raft villages on the side of the lake. We may send you a couple of photos for your web site but it was difficult to capture all that we saw.'

' I’m so glad we took Phil’s advice and had an extra day in Phnom Penh. We loved the city and met many people along the way who were just passing through…we couldn’t help but feel we’d had the more rounded holiday..'

James Ditching, Phnom Penh and Angkor

My highlights of things that were on the agenda has to be Angkor Wat but things I wasn't expecting were the tuk-tuk rides - I loved them! I would really consider living in Cambodia if I could I loved it that much

    Gareth Houghton, Cambodia

'Cambodia was a bit of a mixed bag for us. We loved the people and much of what we saw. The temples at Angkor are incredible, albeit a little busy at times, and the beach in Sihanoukville was superb for a few days of doing nothing (there was also a great curry house which pleased me no end – you can take the Brit out of the UK but you can’t etc etc..)
What wasn’t right about it? Probably us in all honesty, we found any evidence of the Khmer troubles a little hard to deal with. We’re incredibly glad we did what we did and when we did it but it’s just taking a while for it all to sink in!
Thanks for an extremely well organised and professional holiday; it won’t be the last you see of us.'

'There’s not many things that can drag me out of bed at 4.30 am, but getting to Angkor Watt before anyone else for sunrise was enough for me to leap out of my guest house and jump into the back of a tuk-tuk when I heard our guide “Mr Poohy’ knocking. An exhilarating ride journey through pitch black jungle only added to the excitement of arriving at the temples. Mr Poohy lead me through the dense flora where we settled at a spot on the edge of the jungle, all I could see through the jungle mist was a fire flickering and the distant sounds of monks in prayer, as the sun lifted the site of the temples rising was a truly awesome sight. In awe we spent the rest of the day, till the sun set, with our guide exploring the vast areas of jungles and ruins, learning and imagining about the ancient Khmer kingdom. Driving back through a bustling Siem Reap that evening, I was still buzzing from the day’s activities, when we were dropped back at the hotel for some well earned amok fish (a local delicacy not to be missed) – the best thing was that I knew I would have to go back tomorrow and explore some more!'
