- Looking for a more up-and-coming beach destination? Consider the island of Phu Quoc, lying off the very southern tip of the Mekong Delta. Formerly Cambodian territory, the island is the size of Singapore but has mile after mile of deserted sand. Phu Quoc will work well as an additional stop or with a shorter stay in Hoi An. This could work particularly well in Hoi An's wet season, late August to early January.

- Spend a morning at the famous Red Bridge Cooking School. Start your morning with a guided visit to a local market before taking a boat along the Hoi An River to Red Bridge.
