Walk with the herd

A treat awaits anyone willing to invest a little extra effort & journey north-east of Phnom Penh to rarely visited Mondulkiri province – home of the Elephant Valley Project, which provides safe sanctuary for retired elephants & a sustainable income for local mahouts (elephant keepers). Visitors are invited to join the herd for the day, walking with rather than riding on the elephants. It’s a unique approach within Asia & one that undoubtedly enhances your understanding of the herd’s behaviour & how they interact with each other. Helping hands are usually required at bathing time, too – an opportunity not to be passed up!
