In Cambodia’s Colonial heyday, Kep was its most popular beach resort, with many of Phnom Penh’s elite spending summer enjoying its architectural charm, picturesque waterside setting & high quality seafood. In the subsequent quiet decades, Kep fell off the tourist map, & is now making a discreet but welcome comeback. Thankfully it lacks the quality of neighbouring Sihanoukville’s beaches (yes, you read that correctly!) & thus has retained a rare charm, so often lost to the inflatable crocodile brigade. The waterfront shack-restaurants serve the same high standard of seafood & the Colonial architecture has improved, if anything, with age.
