With its stylish wooden bungalows and villas spread throughout rolling lawns that slope down to the Irawaddy River, the Thiripyitsaya Sanctuary is a undoubtedly the type of resort that grabs your attention.
You’ll be unable to ignore its huge riverside swimming pool and terrace area, a welcome feature after a day exploring Bagan’s magnificent temples. Elsewhere, the resort has a delightful spa and several well received dining options, with vegetables and herbs sourced from the hotels own organic gardens.
There is little to choose between the various bungalows, other than your preferred river view. They’re each the same size, with similar bright, elegant furnishings, similar amenities and an outside deck area. The villas, however, are certainly a jump up in standard. Set away from the rest of the hotel, the suite style accommodation combines dark woods and antiquities, large bathrooms (something of a rarity in Myanmar) and a private balcony or veranda.
