Located within Yangon’s impressive Embassy Quarter, the Governor’s Residence is easily Yangon’s most impressive hotel. It lives up to everything you’ve read & heard, then manages to exceed it - in our book, this hotel comfortably takes its place amongst 'the Indochina greats'. The moment you walk through the main gates, you’ll be carried be back in time, thanks to fine English lawns and the placid pool which lies below the carved Colonial wooden terrace.
One inside, you’ll be courteously escorted, through the ‘jumble’ of original buildings, to the guestrooms. All of these are exquisitely decorated with luxurious - and tasteful - furnishings and antiquities, showing off the building's best original features. The general standard of amenities is exceptionally high, from underfloor heating in the marble bathrooms to good free WIFI to the welcome fruit basket, which comes as standard.
At the end of the day, if there’s a finer place in Burma to unwind with than in the Governor's colonial-style, open air Mindon Lounge, then we’ve yet to find it; you’ll just want to spend a lifetime there.
