Located just above Mt Hermit, the disembarkation point for your transportation up Kyaikhtiyo Mountain, you are therefore a very steep hour by foot from The Rock itself (a much more relaxing half hour back down!). Whilst most would agree it is preferable to stay at the top, rooms are limited and the reality is that that few visitors actually make both the sunrise and sunset visit wherever they are staying. Given that everyone needs to make the walk at some point, in reality you are not losing out.
The hotel itself is clean, simple and friendly, with the ‘out of town’ location creating a little more space & comfort than its sister hotel further up the mountain. Set amongst wild gardens, there are several outdoor terraces, one of which offers great views of the Rock from below. Several of the deluxe rooms also afford the same view, whilst all the others offer pleasant views of the gardens. All are bright and spacious, with wooden flooring and a simple décor. Bathrooms are ensuite and air-conditioning is provided for those hot summer months. In reality for much of the year you’re more likely to be asking for an extra blanket, which the friendly staff here are always pleased to provide.
