Impressively situated on the green banks of Bagan’s broad Ayeyarwaddy river, the Aye River View Hotel is a huge estate, its large gardens roll right up from the riverbank to the nicely designed hotel buildings. In the heart of Old Bagan, the resort was built in the 1950s and has a fairly contemporary feel to it, but it’s still Myanmar through & through.
The rooms are nicely finished in a satisfyingly unfussy, traditional style, using lots of wood and neutral colours. They’re generously sized & all have private balconies, which either look out over the freeform pool or towards the nearby temple.
It has three good restaurants, with a terrace down by the river which is really lovely for relaxing in the sunshine, or, better still, watching the sun set by the river.
