Besotted by Bagan

One of South-East Asia's great capitals

It’s safe to assume that every visitor to Burma will list Bagan amongst their top three experiences, & the majority rate it number one. It’s hard to find superlatives that do this 9-13th century capital justice. It’s so special, it’s almost unworldly. Most guests spend at least two days exploring the most famous of the city’s several thousand pagodas & temples. Sunrise is our best loved time of day here, as miles of gleaming spires rise from the dawn mist. Only Angkor Wat provides any true competition in overall visitor impact & archaeological importance.

After recently returning from a 2nd visit to Bagan, Selective Asia’s Nick said ‘for me sunrise is the most special time of day. Whilst at Angkor Wat there are only two really impressive sunrise locations, at Bagan every guide has their own secret spot; every day you get to experience a unique sunrise with no-one but the odd friendly farmer for company.’
