One of Asia's most iconic sites, the remarkable Golden Rock at Kyaikhtiyo Mountain is a trip that is never easily forgotten. Over the centuries Buddhist pilgrims have flocked to the precariously balanced rock to pay homage to the Lord Buddha, a strand of who's hair is said to secure the Rock to the mountain top.
Whilst the pilgrim season runs from the full moon of October to the full moon of May, you can visit the site throughout the year and in reality visiting out of season can often be a little easier if the weather remains kind. The energetic can climb to the summit from the base at Kinpun, whilst most prefer to cover the majority of the distance by truck more.
