The town of Sandakan is located on the eastern coast of Sabah and, whilst a relatively unremarkable town itself, is the ideal base to explore the surrounding region - namely Selingan 'Turtle' Island, Lankayan Island, Sepilok Orang-utan Sanctuary, Kinabatangan River, and Danum Valley.
Points of interest within the town itself include the port, with views out to the South China Sea, and the Puh Jij Suh Chinese Temple
