At times, lately, it felt like you couldn’t open a newspaper travel supplement without a columnist fervently praising the Vietnamese island of Phu Quoc. We first visited in the 1990s & have long been fans - but the constant hype started to make us feel uncomfortable. How was it affecting this small, undeveloped island? Thankfully, with developers held off by the world economy, Phu Quoc has quietly begun to adapt. Mud trails have evolved into dusty tracks. A handful of boutique resorts have sprung up, with more than enough space, solitude & many miles of stunning, unspoilt beach still there to be enjoyed.
