One of Asia's most iconic sites, the remarkable Golden Rock at Kyaikhtiyo Mountain is a trip not easily forgotten. Over the centuries Buddhist pilgrims have flocked to the precariously balanced rock to pay homage to the Lord Buddha, a strand of whose hair is said to secure the Rock to the mountain it sits on. Pilgrim season runs from full moon in October to full moon in May, but you can visit the site throughout the year; in fact, visiting out of season can often be a little easier, if the weather remains kind. The energetic can climb to the summit from the base at Kinpun, while most prefer to cover the majority of the distance by truck.
