Phnom Bakheng
Phnom Bakheng is undoubtedly best known as one of the most popular spots to view the sunset
over Angkor Wat which lies 1.5 km to the south-east. Due to the high footfall, Phnom
Bakheng is also one of the most threatened monuments in the entire temple site.
A Hindu temple in the form of a temple mountain, Phnom Bakheng was built at the
end of the 9th century, during the reign of Yasovarman (from 889-910) and is dedicated
to Shiva.
